NFL is relying on several foreign markets in its growth strategy
On Sunday (3:30 p.m./RTL) the NFL will be visiting Germany for the fourth time with the game between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants. So far, in addition to Munich, Frankfurt has also hosted the football spectacle. The interest from Berlin doesn’t mean “that we won’t come back to Frankfurt and Munich,” said Goodell before the game.
However, Berlin also wants to benefit from the hype. The state government probably expects even greater economic effects than the annual DFB Cup final. In addition to classic football, mixed flag football will soon also be played on a large scale in Berlin. The city wants to apply to host the 2026 World Cup.
The NFL is relying on several foreign markets in its growth strategy. This year the league visited Brazil for the first time, there were three games on the program in London, and next year it will go to Madrid. There is also play in Mexico City. So far, eight games abroad have been agreed, Goodell is even aiming for 16 games outside the USA in the “long term”.
