The Daniel Jones era with the New York Giants appears to be coming to an end.

After the franchise declared Tommy DeVito the starting quarterback and even demoted the 6th pick from the 2019 draft to playmaker No. 4, Jones has now commented in detail.

At a press conference ahead of the home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sunday, 7 p.m. in the live ticker), the 27-year-old described the opportunity to play for the Giants as “a dream come true.” Still, he understands the decision because “I didn’t play well enough to help the team get results.” First signs of an approaching farewell? It certainly seems like it.

Despite the personal setback, Jones looked forward and emphasized that he is “excited for the next opportunity and knows there is a lot of good football ahead of me.”

Because of guarantees: Giants want to prevent injury to Daniel Jones

As things stand, however, this will not take place in the “Big Blue” jersey. Because even Tim Boyle, who is only in the practice squad, was preferred to Jones in “The Athletic” training. The former franchise hopeful suddenly even had to play safety.

At first glance, this measure may seem surprising, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear how to use it. The Giants probably want to prevent Jones from getting seriously injured. The player signed a four-year contract worth $160 million in the spring of 2023, but he was hardly ever able to live up to it.

If he were to injure himself to such an extent that he failed a medical checkup next March, the quarterback would receive a guaranteed salary of $23 million. However, if Jones stays healthy, his salary is not guaranteed and he could be released relatively inexpensively.

As a precautionary measure, the Giants cannot prohibit the former first-round pick from coming to training as long as he is on the roster.

However, Jones could agree to a deal and hinted at that possibility when asked if he plans to remain with the team for the remainder of the year. “I think I’m still processing it,” Jones told SNY. “Right now I’m doing my best to help Tommy and the team prepare. That’s what I’m going to do at the moment.”
