NFL fines player for breaking into interview wearing Trump support hat

In the National Football League (NFL), a player was fined for wearing a hat with a political slogan.

‘ESPN’ quoted a source on the 10th (Korean time) and reported that San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was fined $11,255 (about 15.75 million won).

After a game against the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, Bosa broke into an on-field interview and made an unexpected move by pointing his finger at the phrase “Make America Great Again” written on his hat.

This phrase, so-called ‘MAGA’, is the campaign slogan of then-Republican candidate for US President and current President-elect Donald Trump, and is a phrase that clearly reveals Trump’s America First policy.

The reason he was fined was not because he supported a specific politician. This is because it violated league regulations.

According to ESPN, NFL rules prohibit players from displaying personal messages or logos from non-sponsored brands. This rule applies “both in the stadium on game day and in post-game interviews visible to television viewers.”

Bosa later responded to a question about this in the post-match interview held in the press room: “I’m not going to talk too much about this issue. “But I thought this was an important time.”

Perhaps thanks to his unexpected actions, Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States, beating out Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the incumbent vice president.

After meeting with reporters after team training last Wednesday local time, he added that his actions were “worth it.”

Regarding the fine, he seemed unconcerned, saying, “I haven’t received (notified of the fine) yet, but if I receive it, I will receive it.”

He continued, “I don’t think I’m in a position to make a difference just because I say something. What is clear is that the people have spoken. He also shared his thoughts on the results of the presidential election, saying, “We got what we needed to get.”

He agreed to a five-year, $170 million contract extension in 2023 with his current team, San Francisco.
