Daimler Truck was the partner of the Carolina Panthers team during the NFL game in Munich yesterday. On November 10th, the NFL team from Charlotte, North Carolina met the New York Giants at the Allianz Arena. The entire weekend in downtown Munich was all about American football. There is a special eye-catcher for commercial vehicle fans and NFL fans alike: Daimler Truck is presenting a Freightliner Cascadia in the look of the Carolina Panthers directly at Munich’s Odeonsplatz.
The US brand Freightliner has been part of the Daimler truck portfolio for decades and primarily produces heavy trucks for long-haul routes and the construction industry for the North American market. The Freightliner Cascadia is the best-selling Class 8 truck in North America, and the brand recently introduced the fifth generation of the Cascadia. The Cascadia, which shines in matt black and blue in Munich, is a rare vehicle on German roads. The vehicle acts as a test vehicle for Daimler Truck in Germany and was spruced up for its first visit to the Bavarian capital on the occasion of the NFL Munich Games 2024.
The Cascadia stands out thanks to its size of four meters high and 2.50 meters wide as well as the elongated hood and three axles typical of the North American market. The truck has a particularly large, high driver’s cab with a separate sleeping cabin for the driver (“Sleeper Cab”). The branded coach that was chartered from Schlienz seemed rather ordinary and, like the truck, was also branded accordingly. Daimler Truck North America (“DTNA”), the US subsidiary of Daimler Truck, has been a sponsorship partner of the Carolina Panthers since 2017 and is also supporting the American football team from Charlotte in North Carolina this NFL season.
Back in June of this year, a delegation from the Carolina Panthers visited the Daimler Truck headquarters in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart. The Carolina Panthers have been playing in the NFL (NFC South Division) since 1995. With locations in North Carolina and South Carolina, DTNA has several thousand employees in the region, many of whom are avid Carolina Panthers fans. In addition to generating awareness for the brand, the partnership is primarily aimed at employee activation and joint participation in local initiatives. DTNA and the Carolina Panthers have been successful partners for charitable projects for years. Last year, for example, Carolina Panthers fans and DTNA employees collected gifts for needy families at the “Toy Drive” in December.
The Carolina Panthers were founded on October 26, 1993 as the 29th franchise of the National Football League. The Panthers began play in the 1995 season. In 28 seasons, Carolina has won six division titles, including three straight NFC South division titles from 2013 to 2015. The Panthers have appeared in 17 playoff games, won two NFC championships and are in the Super Bowl XXXVIII and appeared in Super Bowl 50. David A. Tepper, founder and president of global hedge fund Appaloosa Management, LP, is the owner of the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers, who represent both Carolina states, play their home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, just a few miles from the North Carolina-South Carolina border. Supporting the bi-state region is a priority for the team. The Panthers work with over 3,800 community partners, nonprofits and schools across the Carolinas each year.
