NFL: There is now pure chaos in New York – and in Dallas it is ablaze

In his NFL column, Markus Kuhn writes about current football topics. The ex-professional analyzes the events in New York, the defeat of the Chiefs and the downfall of the Cowboys.

Another week in which so much has happened on and off the field that I can’t handle 4 downs. That’s why I’ve got something extra for you this week.

A lot happened again this week and there was no time to get down to Munich. But that’s a good thing and the NFL has given us a lot to talk about again.

First Down: Quake at the New York Jets

I’m really starting to wonder whether the Jets actually still belong to their owner, or whether they already own Aaron Rodgers. Joking aside. The Jets have fired their general manager Joe Douglas.

He actually fulfilled almost every wish of star quarterback Rodgers and even brought Davante Adams to the Jets.

But somehow all that doesn’t seem to be enough and so he now has to look for a new job while the Jets are still deep in crisis with a very strong squad.

Second Down: The last snap

We were able to watch Daniel Jones’ last move for the Giants live in Munich. Because the Giants announced in their bye week that the former first-round pick will not only no longer start, but as the third quarterback he will no longer even be an active part of the squad on game days. This marks the end of Jones’ time with the Giants.

Fan favorite Tommy DeVito will lead the team from now on and Drew Lock will be his backup. An exciting decision by the Giants. They probably want to take another good look at DeVito.

I still think he won’t be the Giants’ starting quarterback next year. In terms of timing, the Giants couldn’t have done it better.

The bye week offers enough calm to make such decisions without completely destroying the normal rhythm. I’m excited to see what happens next and who will be behind center for the Giants next year.

Third Down: Perfect Match

In Pittsburgh, two people found each other who fit together perfectly. The Steelers and Russell Wilson. Wilson needed a team and a head coach like Mike Tomlin to get back into shape, and the Steelers have a top quarterback who can win them games.

They can also rely on Justin Fields as the running quarterback from time to time. This team is showing week after week that they are a mega candidate for the playoffs and maybe even have a shot at the Super Bowl.

Fourth Down: First loss

The Chiefs have finally suffered their first defeat. In the game against the Bills, the Chiefs, who were otherwise unlucky, were unable to avoid defeat and left the field as losers for the first time this season. And yet this could even be a win for the Chiefs.

Because a defeat like this sharpens the senses again, especially in the now important phase, and makes any arrogance disappear. Therefore, the Chiefs could now be even stronger, more focused and hungrier than before.

Touchdown: Big decision, big impact

The Saints fired their head coach Dennis Allen two weeks ago and things have been looking up for the Saints ever since. Because they are 2-0 with interim head coach Darren Rizzi and are slowly recovering from the many defeats in a row. You can see what a decision like this can do if you have a good plan in place.

There’s a lot of fire in Texas. But while the sparklers and party hats are burning at the Houston Texans, the place is ablaze at the Cowboys. The Dallas team has yet to win a game at home this season and has a very poor record.

Owner Jerry Jones will be seething inside and I wouldn’t be surprised if some big changes won’t be long in coming, because you know that if the Cowboys don’t perform, things will get uncomfortable from the owner’s perspective. The season is definitely over for the Cowboys.

It was another very exciting week of NFL football. A lot has happened again and some important decisions have been made. I’m excited to see how these play out in the next few weeks.

Until next week. Your Markus Kuhn
