Lando Norris will start this afternoon from pole position for the Brazilian GP, after a qualifying marked by rain and accidents. There were five red flags, fortunately without consequences for the drivers, but which will be a lot of work for the mechanics, who will have just over three hours to recover the single-seaters in time for the race. Norris will have George Russell’s Mercedes alongside his McLaren on the front row of the grid, with Yuki Tsunoda (RB Honda RBPT) and Esteban Ocon (Alpine) on the second row. In fact, RBHonda RBPT had one of its best qualifiers of all time, as it not only placed the Japanese driver in third place, but also has Liam Lawson in an impressive 5th place, alongside Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari. Max Verstappen, (still) leader of the World Championship, will start from 17th position. The Dutchman, who would already have to serve a five-place grid penalty for changing components in his Red Bull, was unable to improve his time in Q2 after Lance Stroll’s accident and will have to start from 17th place.
Franco Colapinto (Q1), Carlos Sainz (Q2), Lance Stroll (Q2), Fernando Alonso (Q3) and Alex Albon (Q3) were the ‘accident’ drivers in this qualifying.
The race is scheduled for 3:30 pm, Continental Portugal time.
