Lando Norris will start at the front of the São Paulo GP, which had its entire schedule changed due to rain and has a great chance of reducing the disadvantage to Max Verstappen in the race for the Formula 1 drivers’ title. The Dutchman will start in 17th, as he was eliminated in the second part of the classification and, on top of that, he was punished with the loss of five positions on the grid due to the change of the combustion engine.
The race was scheduled for 2pm, but will start at 12:30pm, with Formula 1 trying to avoid the heaviest rain that is expected to fall in the afternoon in the capital of São Paulo. The end of the session was exciting, with George Russell taking second place and Yuki Tsunoda surprising with third place.
Verstappen was quite angry with the race direction after his elimination. “I find it unbelievable, the car hits the wall, breaks down, is clearly destroyed, but they wait 30-40 seconds so everyone else can complete their lap times, and of course those behind can’t even do a lap . I can’t understand how it’s possible to let 30 seconds, 40 seconds pass, and that, of course, ends the classification.”
