“We have played against each other since we were boys. 25 years of being rivals and pushing each other beyond our limits. We have fought some of the most epic battles in our sport,” said Djokovic in the short video shared Shows scenes of the former opponents on the pitch and is captioned with the words “He never liked retirement anyway”.
“I thought our story was over. But it turned out that it still has a final chapter. It’s time for one of my most difficult opponents to join my team,” the Serb continued: “Welcome aboard, Coach Andy Murray!”
Djokovic separated from his long-time successful coach, the former Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanisevic, in March 2024 and has been without a coach since then. Murray, on the other hand, was still active as a professional this year.
The three-time Grand Slam winner ended his career after the Olympic Games in Paris, where Djokovic won gold. “I’m really looking forward to the task ahead,” revealed Murray.
