Novak Djoković struggles with motivation

Fans fear that the fact that he will not compete at the ATP Finals in Turin is a foretaste of the rest of his career.

While the competition was represented at the biggest tournaments after the US Open, Novak Djoković was on vacation in the Maldives. The cancellation of the ATP Finals was no longer a surprise, but rather proof that he is making his announcement come true and is actually only pursuing goals at the Grand Slam level and in the Davis Cup in the late autumn of his career.

But how long after he fulfills his last big career dream with Olympic gold this year? Fans fear that a generational battle with Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Co. will no longer be a motivation for the most successful tennis player of all time and that the Serb will soon follow his last eternal competitor, Rafael Nadal, into sporting retirement. Which fuels his emotionless rejection for Turin. “It’s quite an honor to qualify for the finals. I was really looking forward to it. Apologies to everyone who wanted to see me there,” shares the 37-year-old, adding that an injury (what actually?) was the reason is his absence.

The season finale of the eight best of the year begins on Sunday. For the first time since 2001 without Roger Federer, Nadal and Djoković.
