Austria’s basketball men have been confirmed early as runners-up for the next qualifying phase for the 2027 World Cup.
The ÖBV team celebrated their third victory in the pre-qualification on Sunday in Armenia and thus won Group C. The Austrians won hands down in Yerevan with 129:80 (68:28).
Nine months ago in Vienna, coach Chris O’Shea’s team’s victory was even closer (106:91).

Sylven Landesberg was ÖBV’s top scorer again with 25 points in the second game after his team comeback after six years. Turkey legionnaire Luka Brajkovic had 20 points.
The first round of World Cup pre-qualification ends for Red-White-Red on February 22, 2025 with the home game against Albania.
The next phase includes the three group winners plus the best runner-up and eight teams that did not qualify for the European Championship. The top two from four groups of three make it to the final World Cup qualifying phase.
