8 medals were achieved in the competition held at the IES Blas Cabrera

The IES Blas Cabrera Felipe Pavilion, in Arrecife, hosted the Canary Islands Sub’11, Sub’13 and Sub’19 Badminton Championships this past weekend, which was brilliantly organized by the Lanzarote Raqueta Club. The members of the organizing club put together a great performance throughout the two days of competition, in which they won a total of 8 medals, highlighting the performance of Manuel Cabrera who was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands in the under-11 category.
In the under-11 category, Manuel Cabrera was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands after beating Álvaro Guadalupe in the final, in a match that required three sets to determine the winner and with a fairly close score. Her teammate Vera García won the silver medal, defeating Nerea Infantes in the semifinal. In the mixed doubles, Vera García and Airam Steux won the gold medal, after beating their teammates Manuel Cabrera and Gara Sánchez in the final.
The members of the Lanzarote Raqueta Club won three medals in the under-13 category. At the individual level, Jorge Betancort won the silver medal, losing in the final to Javier Peña, and Marina Morales won the bronze medal, reaching the semifinal round and not being able to access the final after losing to Irene Socorro. And in the mixed doubles, the couple formed by Ian González and Esmeralda Estefanía Castillo won the bronze medal.
The Lanzarote Raqueta Club’s performance in the Canary Islands Badminton Championship was completed with a bronze medal in the under-19 category. Atenea Morales reached the semifinal round, and after a tough match she fell to Laura de León from the Tenzul El Rosario Club.
An intense weekend of badminton was experienced at the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe facilities, where players, coaches and families have been part of the success achieved by the Lanzarote Raqueta Club.
