The <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2023/11/falun-fails-storvreta-the-only-leaders-floorball-sportacentrs-com/” title=”"Falun" fails, "Storvreta" the only leaders – Floorball – Sportacentrs.com”>Thorengruppen presented an exciting name for this season.

Patrik Rainersson, with a 25-year background in hockey, came in as a new coach alongside seasoned Johan “Lingon” Lindgren.

His role was to contribute with hockey leadership and match coaching.

He also did so in the preseason and five games into the SSL season.

However, the 6-2 victory against Linköping on 13 October was his last.

– Then we excelled and it was Thoren’s best match ever. I already knew before it that I would step down, so it was a nice ending, says Patrik Rainersson.

Patrik Rainersson leaves Thorengruppen

The reason for his departure is about hockey. He works full-time at the hockey high school Thoren Sports Academy and at the association Umeå HK.

– I got other tasks with a lot of traveling and training which made it difficult to combine, so then I had to take a step back, says Rainersson who previously coached Teg in the hockey team and Björklöven’s U16 team.

He is disappointed that it was such a short-lived floorball adventure.

– I know that “Lingon” is left on his own now, so I’ll leave him in the lurch. It feels like that. But sometimes you have to make a decision like that.

Do you think “Lingon” will carry on some of your hockey legacy?

– I hope I have made an impression. We have been working on routines and requirements where I hope we have found a good way. What we had going on and what the guys had set up was something different to previous years. I hope they continue with it.

“Not really easy to switch”

It doesn’t sound to Patrik Rainersson that there will be more floorball in the future.

At least that’s not the plan at the moment.

He will focus solely on hockey.

– It wasn’t really easy to switch to floorball. Tactically, you have to rethink as there are not the same natural blowouts as in hockey. There will be a higher tempo in the match. You cannot influence here and now in the same way, but you have to think a few steps ahead.

What do you think about Thorengruppen’s season ahead now?

– The whole group has a lot of floorball in them and they deserve to play in the playoffs with the team they have and the hard work they put in. I hope for a good end to the season and that is quite possible too, says Patrik Rainersson.

Erik Marklund has acted as assistant coach to Johan Lingren in the last few games – in Rainersson’s absence.

Thorengruppen is in ninth place in the SSL table after seven rounds.
