Pickleball, “pop tennis” arrives in the parks of Gries-San Quirino – Sport

BOLZANO. Breath of fresh air in the neighborhood parks Gries-San Quirino. The district councillor Gianni Rossatoat the height of La Civica per Bolzano, presented two proposals to the neighborhood council to introduce the pickleballa game that is still little known but rapidly growing, a sort of pop tennis, between padel and beach tennis that adapts to any environment, without bureaucratic constraints.

The proposals, approved unanimously by the councilors present, include the tracing of the regulatory lines for pickleball courts on the already existing playgrounds in the parks of via della Vigna and via Eisenkeller. “This initiative will allow enthusiasts to play pickleball and the curious to experience it for the first time. It is a sport for everyone, which combines fun and physical well-being,” said Rossato, who is a sports enthusiast.

What is pickleball? Born in the United States, pickleball is conquering more and more athletes around the world thanks to its simplicity and inclusive spirit. It is a discipline that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, playable in both doubles and singles. The court is smaller than a tennis court (6.10 m x 13.41 m), the net is low, and flat rackets and perforated plastic balls are used. Fun and strategic, pickleball is great for all ages and skill levels. “It is an activity that is suitable for young people as well as seniors – continues Rossato – thanks to the moderate pace and the simplicity of the rules. But if played in singles, it can also become quite intense, making it interesting for those looking for a greater physical challenge”.

Pickleball isn’t just a pastime: it is a complete workout. Each stroke engages the legs, heart and shoulders, promoting cardiovascular well-being and coordination. Furthermore, thanks to its strategic and social approach, it also stimulates concentration and mental alertness. “It’s a game that It’s good for the body and mindand allows you to meet people of all ages. Sociality is an important part of this sport”, underlines Rossato.
