The Prato Academy proved to be the best club in the A2 Italian Judo Cup, as regards the competition reserved for women. And even at the men’s level, the club performed well. This is the double verdict issued by the Lignano Sabbiadoro event, which in the women’s competition saw the Prato association climb to the top step of the podium, putting Pro Recco Judo and Judovanzago behind them. Thanks to the sum of the individual performances of the individual athletes, starting with Benedetta Capponi who was able to become champion in the 63 kg category, climbing to the top step. Also excellent were the sporting performances of the young Sofia Kubler, who took home a silver in the +78 kg category, and of Martina Cocco, bronze in the -78 kg category. “It was a beautiful day. First of all for the result, and perhaps this is obvious, but also because I finally felt good on the tatami and I was able to do what I have been training for for 25 years – said Capponi – I thank my coach, my gym mates and those who have believed in me up until now.” Micaela Ingrassia also took part in the event, giving her contribution to ensure that the Academy rose to first place in the general ranking of clubs with 24 points. In the men’s category (with the team placing forty-first in the general ranking) the best single result came from Alex Carta, seventh among the “cadets -90 kg”. Finally, ninth place for Jacopo Pirodda, in the “+100” category. “A very beautiful day, even the individual results could have gone better – concluded the coach Fabio Barni, without hiding his satisfaction – but everything we missed on the debut we gained with the competitive results of the girls. We are happy”.
