The Royal Belgian Football Association is looking for a replacement for Frank Vercauteren as technical director, his contract expires at the end of December and will not be extended. Vincent Mannaert seems to be the top candidate.
The evening however, comes out with some remarkable news. The KBVB reportedly also sounded out Hein Vanhaezebrouck and Michel Preud’homme, but both former head coaches turned down the offer.
Mannaert, right?
Ex-Club Brugge pawn Mannaert was previously in the picture to become CEO of the KBVB, but in the end that did not happen. However, it may well be that Mannaert will still work for the Belgian Football Association. Suddenly he is the absolute top candidate to succeed Frank Vercauteren.
Mannaert is said to be negotiating with Peter Willems and the talks are said to be going in the right direction. However, the KBVB apparently did not go all-in for Mannaert. Vanhaezebrouck and Preud’homme also featured prominently. However, the Football Association rejected the petition.
Rebuffed
After retiring from KAA Gent, Vanhaezebrouck became an analyst and it looks like he will no longer be head coach for a while. However, a job as technical director was not an option either. HVH does not want to be active in the football world. And the same goes for Preud’homme.
In the past, the former goalkeeper of the Red Devils was an absolute top trainer and sporting director. Preud’homme was even mentioned several times as national coach, but he also no longer seems open to an active job in football.

His profile would have been validated by the CA and the finalization of his contract would be underway.
