Marieville has formalized its five-year capital plan 2025-2029. Investments will be used primarily to renovate public infrastructure.
Vincent Després is very clear about his management of Marieville. “We are going to invest in our infrastructure to renovate it. It’s less sexy only new projects, but I am sure that residents are happier with quality drinking water service rather than parties. I always presented myself like this. »
Towards sport
Thus, $71.2 million, spread over the next five years, will be invested in projects aimed at improving municipal facilities and pursuing the City’s strategic objectives, such as the improvement of sports facilities, the maintenance of municipal buildings, upgrading water infrastructure, as well as the development of active transportation measures.
“The leisure park will see its baseball field updated, as well as the tennis courts,” confirms the Marieville mayor. We are also going to bring a municipal swimming pool or water games, this has not yet been decided. It could also be dedicated to other sports, such as basketball or pickleball. We also need to further renovate the arena, which has already cost millions of dollars and was far from optimal when we took it over. People are moving, young people want to play outside. Through these actions, we are targeting a lot of people. We want to provide access to quality and sustainable infrastructure. »
The other important project in this plan is the municipal library and community center, estimated at $17.8 million, 43% of which will be financed by loans. “It’s a structuring project at the regional level with a technological component,” continues Vincent Després. Mayors of other cities talk to me about it, its influence goes beyond Marieville. »
With an increase of $4.1 million compared to the previous plan, the program nevertheless limits the increase in borrowing to $2.6 million. Thus, 53.2% of investments will come from other sources, strengthening the City’s capacity to invest in its future without overloading its debt. “It’s a wise five-year plan,” concludes the mayor. We respect our citizens’ ability to pay while safeguarding our infrastructure. »
