Nearly sixty women participated this Sunday in the practical self-defense class organized by the Department of Equality of the Puertollano City Council, thus reaching the 14th edition of this initiative. The session was directed by the renowned athlete Paqui Moreno and had the special collaboration of Alejandra García Ruiz, lawyer from the Women’s Center.
The event was inaugurated by the Councilor for Equality, Marian Martín-Albo; the Sports Councilor, Javier Trujillo; and the mayor of Puertollano, Miguel Ángel Ruiz. During his speech, the mayor stressed the importance of this type of activities to “empower women, providing them with tools that strengthen their security and confidence.”
The event, carried out in collaboration with the Federation of Judo and Associated Sports and the Municipal Sports Board, is part of the special programming organized by the Puertollano City Council in commemoration of November 25, International Day against Violence against Women.

The activities began days ago with the “Choose to Live” exhibition on the Paseo de San Gregorio. This exhibition, framed within the campaign to raise awareness and prevent gender violence, is financed by the Ministry of Equality, the Secretary of State for Equality and the Puertollano City Council. The exhibition highlights “the first warning signs” of sexist behavior and offers information on resources available to escape situations of violence, in addition to paying tribute to the women murdered so far this year.
The commemorative program will continue on November 20 at 7:00 p.m., in Room B of the Municipal Auditorium, with a talk-discussion by Enma Larreta, promoter of the “Invisibles” project, who will share how to transform a traumatic experience into an inspiring life.
November 25 will be the central event of the commemoration, beginning with a rally at 11:45 a.m. at the Concha de la Música, followed by an urban demonstration that will run through La Fuente, Amargura and Aduana streets, ending in the Plaza del City hall.
At 12 noon, there will be a reading of a manifesto and a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of gender violence. The Municipal Corporation, educational centers and various local groups will participate in this event, who will show their commitment to the eradication of this social scourge.
