The football game between the Carolina Panthers and the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/another-dismissal-in-the-nfl/" title="Another dismissal in the NFL“>New York Giants in Munich caused ridicule among American fans. German fans, on the other hand, celebrated the event.
While German fans enjoyed the NFL game in Munich, American fans jeered loudly “TZ” about the matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants. One user on Twitter said that “getting up at 6 a.m. to watch Giants vs. Panthers” was the “most sadistic thing I’ve done in a long time.”
On Instagram one user commented: “No one is awake to watch this game.” One football fan believes the game is a “punishment for Europe”. “Who is even watching this game?” another user wants to know. “A game that no one cares about,” it says on social media.
NFL fans compare game opening to ‘funeral’
Star violinist David Garrett’s performance of the American national anthem also got its fill. “A sad violin is the right opening for the two teams,” writes an Instagram user. Another simply compares it to a “funeral.”
Some US supporters also showed sympathy for the German spectators and hoped for better performances from the teams. The Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants disappointed in the current season, which also caused malice.
Dramatic end to the Munich game
Both teams have had little success this season. The Panthers had two wins and seven losses before the game, as did the Giants.
The game took place in front of 70,132 spectators. There were also numerous prominent guests such as Bayern footballers Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala. The NFL plans to play in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium in 2025.
