Havana, Nov 9 (RHC) – Star left-handed pitcher Liván Moinelo will open this Sunday’s warm-up match between team Cuba and the Banco Cooperativo club, from the semi-professional circuit of Chinese Taipei, in the final stretch of preparation for the Premier 12.
Moinelo, who has become the main starter of the Cuban team, was the last player to join Cuba’s training camp in Taipei in the last few hours, after shining in the strong Japanese League.
In what is considered the second best league in the world, the 28-year-old Pinar del Río native took the trophy for best pitcher in earned run average in the Pacific League, in addition to being a key player in the SoftBank Halcones, runners-up of the tournament. Japanese
According to colleague Roberto Ramírez, sent by the Cuban press to Premier 12, the left-hander arrived in Taipei on Friday and this Saturday he shared the training of the pitching staff led by Pedro Luis Lazo, on a free day for the position players.
This Sunday, in a match against Banco Cooperativo, of the Taipei semi-professional circuit, Moinelo will pitch the first inning.
The clash will be at the Tianmu Baseball Stadium, the same venue in which Cuba will play four of its five games as part of group B of the Premier 12 of baseball, which will start in that key in Asia on November 13.
After clashing against the Banco Cooperativo club, Armando Johnson’s team will face Wei Chuan Dragons, from the professional league, a day later in the last preparation match.
Previously, the team went on a tour that included matches in South Korea, where they had three wins and three losses, and two matches in Taiwan, in which they won.
