RECANATI – Svethia wins the long-awaited derby with their coastal cousins Attila Porto Recanati and joins Matelica at 14th at the top of the Group E rankings. The duel between the two leaders will take place on Sunday in Castelraimondo. It was a “dirty” derby certainly not appreciated by basketball aesthetes which Recanati made its own thanks to wider rotations, greater physical strength and the patience in knowing how to seize the right moment to place the decisive extension. A work on the flanks that paid off after the long interval when Sabbatini and his teammates seemed to have more fuel than an opponent who was playing for much more than what the final score says. Tight and edgy match in the first quarter where Svethia still lacks Andreani and with Sabbatini on the bench as a signature, they argue with the basket while Porto Recanati immediately shows off a dominant Gamazo in the paint. Pozzetti’s triple (10-10) does not unlock the Leopardians who close 12-16 at the first siren.
Second ten minutes with an identical script, Svethia’s percentage deficit but Attila not fully exploiting the home team’s difficulties. Urbutis’ triple from the corner tries to shake Pala-CingolaniPierini (19-18), but in an amen the guests score a 7-0 run and extend the lead to +6 (19-25). With 1/9 from three points the yellow and blue take refuge with the ball under Urbutis, the Lithuanian together with a positive Fontana bring the hosts back to -2 (25-27). On the other side Caverni almost at the siren signs the 25-29 with which they go to the locker rooms.
The music changes upon returning to the field: after the new +6 Attila signed by Cicconi Massi, it is Magrini’s triple that wakes up his team. The defensive intensity increases, Gurini and Pozzetti light up, Urbutis for the +3 (40-37) which forces coach Scalabroni to time out. However, it is still the long Dorico who makes the palas vibrate with the bomb of 45-39, two free throws from Mancini however keep an Attila in his wake apparently in need of oxygen (45-41 in the 30th minute).
However, the inertia has changed, Recanati is confident, Clementoni also comes out and brings his team back to +7 (50-43). Porto Recanati no longer has any and it is still Clementoni who gives the first double-digit advantage to a Svethia who is now in control of the match. Gurini also from the arc together with 5 consecutive points from Magrini seal a deserved and hard-fought victory for a Svethia who is preparing in the best possible way in view of Sunday’s away match on the field of the battleship Matelica. It ends 66-49 with a wonderful Palas all standing to applaud coach Di Chiara’s boys.
