The Premier League suspended one of its referees David Coote after the leak of a video in which he insulted former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. In the video, whose date has not yet been determined, Coote, along with another person, hurls insults at the German coach, calling him “stupid” and “arrogant.”
According to Sky Sports, in the recording Coote also remembers an incident in a match against Burnley during the pandemic, where Klopp accused him of lying. “He is stupid, absolutely stupid. I have no interest in talking to someone so fucking arrogant,” Coote commented in the video, referring to Klopp.
The recording has been widely shared on social networks since last Sunday, generating a stir. In another video, Coote asks that the material not be released, mentioning that his career could be compromised. “He can’t go anywhere, seriously.”he states, to which his partner responds: “He is a Premier League referee, let’s not ruin his career.”
It is important to note that Coote, who refereed the match between Liverpool and Aston Villa last Saturday, has been immediately suspended pending an investigation.
The decision was announced by the PGMOL, the body in charge of Premier League referees, which expressed that the situation is being taken seriously.
