The Southeast German championships for youth U13 to U19 took place last weekend in Markkleeberg, Saxony, near Leipzig. Nadja-Christine Reihle from Haigerloch, who plays for Spvgg Mössingen, made it onto the podium in all three disciplines in the U19 category.
At the Southeast German championships, the best youth players from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony competed for championship honors, and at the same time the tournament is always the qualifying tournament for the German championships.
Out in the individual semi-finals
Nadja-Christine Reihle, together with partner Jan Huttenloch (SSV Waghäusel), ultimately made it to the final in the first mixed competition after some close matches. The Baden-Württemberg duo held up well against the top-seeded pairing of Felix Knödel and Aurelia Wulandoko (ESV Flugelrad Nürnberg/TSV Freystadt), but in the end had to admit defeat with 14:21 and 15:21 and thus became runner-up.
The individual competition followed, in which Reihle played his way to the semi-finals. In an exciting match, she lost to national player Sarah Nickel (ESV Flugelrad Nürnberg) with 15:21, 21:17 and 16:21 and thus came third in this discipline.
Missed chance in the final
On Sunday there was a doubles game, with national player Wulandoko the Haigerloch high school student confidently played her way to the final with clear victories. Against Xingzhu Li and Anastasia Safonova (ESV Flugelrad Nürnberg/TuS Geretsried), Reihle/Wulandoko won the first set 21:9 in a very dominant manner. In the second round, however, the duo failed to close the bag, losing the third set 23:25 and then also the third set 18:21. Nadja-Christine Reihle returned to Haigerloch with another runner-up title, while her doubles partner Wulandoko traveled directly north to two international matches in Bremen and Hamburg.
Tight program
With these results, the Haigerloch left-hander has qualified in all three disciplines for the German U19 championships, which will take place in Gera on the first weekend in December. To prepare for the “German”, there is a multi-day squad course at the Ruit sports school.
Before that, Reihle has two more active matchdays to play in November; she is currently undefeated with Spvgg Mössingen in the Baden-Württemberg League, both personally and with the team. On Saturday, Mössingen will first face BC Offenburg 2 (2 p.m.) and then against SSV Ettlingen (7 p.m.). Both teams are in the table directly behind Reihle & Co., who are currently in fourth place.
