Finally reached the top group with triumphs in Swabian derbies
Last weekend, the second representative of SG Schorndorf Badminton became the first round champions of the Swabian teams in the Regionalliga Southeast thanks to their 6:2 win over the reigning runner-up SG TSV Diedorf/TSV Haunstetten and their 7:1 triumph against TV 1861 Dillingen. At the same time, captain Julian Kramer’s team became one of the three undefeated guards to become one of the favorites to win the league title.
“Of course it’s nice to have the upper hand in these prestige comparisons,” said press spokesman Michael Bothner happily, “But what’s more important is the realization that we can slowly but surely set ourselves the goal of a championship.”
The Daimlerstädter:innen basically left nothing to chance against the reigning runner-up SG TSV Diedorf/TSV Haunstetten, who started weakly, and exacerbated the guests’ crisis of results – 6:2. After the opening doubles it was still a close affair. While Benedikt Tausch/Marco Weese and Esin Habiboglou/Kerstin Wagner were able to clearly win their games, the second men’s doubles team stumbled. Yannick Haag and J. Kramer rarely found the right solutions against Jakob Schilling/Maximilian Steimer – 2:1. In the three men’s singles, Schorndorf’s Bundesliga reserves didn’t let anything go wrong and basically sealed the team’s success. Simon Kramer checkmated Martin Aust in the top singles, Tausch lost out to Patrick Flemming for the second time and Haag took revenge on Steimer for the defeat in the doubles. The mixed doubles got the sixth point. Wagner/S. Kramer showed Julia Hornstein/Schilling the limits. Katrin Köhler managed to correct the result, keeping her nose in the lead against Habiboglou after three intense sets – 6:2.
With 7:1, the badminton artists from the Rems-Murr Valley had a surprisingly clear victory against Dillingen, who had been weakened by substitutes. After all, the guests were at the top of the table before the game weekend and have impressed with strong performances so far. On this day, however, there was no match against the SG second team.
Already after the opening doubles, the Schorndorfer team was clearly headed for victory. Tausch/Weese didn’t let anything go wrong in the top doubles. The reigning German champion in the O35 age group, Wagner, performed at her best alongside Habiboglou – 21:19, 21:14. And this time J. Kramer/Haag were also able to celebrate. After losing the first set, the SG duo was already on the verge of losing the game, but with an incredible amount of nerve they initiated the turnaround (28:26) and used the momentum to defeat Tobias Güttinger/Steffen Kleinle (21 :17) – 3:0. The men’s singles also delivered reliably again. S. Kramer swept over Moritz Herkner. Haag and Tausch also certainly brought home their comparisons with Kleinle and the former Schorndorfer Markus Geisenhofer. In the mixed doubles, Wagner/S. Kramer was one set behind, found better grip against Annika Oliwa/Güttinger as the game went on and came into control to secure the better end in the deciding round. The zero number was prevented by Johanna Reinhardt, who earned the Dillinger honorary point with her success over Habiboglou – 7:1.
Overall, captain J. Kramer was pleased with a convincing team performance in both comparisons, which lifted the SG runner-up to third place with 8:2 points. Only the still unbeaten TSV Niederwürschnitz and co-relegated BSV Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen rank ahead of them due to more games played and better playing conditions. The race for the interim goal of the autumn championship is now entering its hot phase.
