RONO HILLS, Nov 17: The 10th edition of University Badminton League (UBL)-2024 of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) is underway in its campus here.
Organised by RGU Officers’ Club (RGUOC), it was inaugurated by in-charge vice chancellor Prof. S.K. Nayak as chief guest amidst huge gathering of sports enthusiasts and badminton fans in mini indoor sports hall.
While wishing successful conduct of the event, Prof Nayak lauded the club and its efforts to promote badminton as a source of recreation while keeping oneself physically fit and mentally sound health. He urged all players to play the game with true sportsmanship spirit.
The RGUOC, affiliated to Arunachal State Badminton Association, is organising badminton doubles events for both intra-club category and open category for both male and female players of the university.
Total 23 teams are locking horns in men’s doubles (open and intra level), women’s doubles (open) and mixed doubles (open and intra level) events comprising of faculty members, administrators, research scholars, post graduate and undergraduate students. The matches spread over four days are played on league basis at respective pools in all the categories and shall be completed by the 16th November evening.
The clash of the titans (final matches) was cpnducted Sunday. The winners, runners-up and 2nd runners-up will receive cash prizes, trophies and citations, besides bagging sponsorships by the club to participate in ASBA organised tournaments.
Earlier, RGUOC chairman Prof. Gibji Nimasow earlier presented a brief note of the event while organising committee secretary Pitam Jomoh and committee member Litlong Nokbi also spoke, according to a RGU release.
