In this sense, the Secretary of Sports, Nahuel Astutti, stated that “we are proud in many aspects, taking stock of the previous part and the event, we took away very positive things” and added that “each of our athletes has made their best effort and They have also been able to enjoy a very important and very nice week in the neighboring country of Chile, where they have been able to share with other delegations, make friends, and transmit values.”
On the other hand, Astutti said that “I want to convey congratulations to each of the federations that, together with the Sports Secretariat, have articulated a good prior process, which was very important, where we gave opportunities to many children from our province.” and added that “we reached every corner of Río Negro and I think that is very valuable because we undoubtedly achieved a greater objective that we have, which is to be able to have sports accessibility and for the children to continue immersed in sports.”
In this edition of the Araucanía Binational Games, the provincial delegation won 37 medals (8 gold, 9 silver and 20 bronze) and won the gold cup in two disciplines (women’s judo and men’s swimming) and with the silver in two others (men’s volleyball and women’s basketball), thus achieving 177 points in the general table, thus surpassing Chubut (171 pts) and La Pampa (168 pts).
With this new triumph, Río Negro extended its winning streak and became the first participant of the contest to win a five-time consecutive championship, thanks to the titles obtained in Magallanes 2018, La Pampa 2019, Los Lagos 2022, at home in 2023 and in Aysén 2024 (in 2020 and 2021 the covid-19 pandemic prevented the development of the Games.”
In addition, the province achieved its 15th coronation, another record that today seems unattainable for the rest of the Chilean regions and Patagonian provinces, since its immediate pursuers in the historical record are La Pampa and Bío Bío, both with 5 consecrations.
A curious fact about Rio Negro’s conquests in the Games is that its first title (2000) and the last (2024) were given with the Aysén region as organizer.
In this way, Río Negro wrote another page of glory in the history of the Araucanía Binational Games and will enjoy one more year holding the title of champion.
