On Sunday (November 3), Robert De Niro attended the Philadelphia Eagles‘ football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. However, the 81-year-old was not only there to watch the match, but also to spend time with the fans in attendance and secure more votes for Kamala Harris.
The surprise appearance
Robert De Niro celebrated the so-called Tailgate Party with the visitors. Before the actual football event, the sports fans meet in the parking lots in front of the stadium to grill together, celebrate and get in the right mood for the upcoming competition between the teams. On Sunday, “The Irishman” actor also mingled with people to talk to them about the upcoming US election on November 5th. Accompanied by politicians from the Democratic Party, such as former Secretary of State John Kerry and Representatives Mary Gay Scanlon and Madeleine Dean, De Niro tried to win over more voters for Kamala Harris during the party. The NFL’s official X account also shared a photo of the event to acknowledge the Oscar winner’s presence.
Michael Embrich, a former member of the US Secretary of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, was also there and shared a photo of De Niro’s speech, in which he spoke about why women are suitable for the post of president. In doing so, the actor tried to refute a prejudice of some Trump voters.
“It was an honor to meet Robert De Niro, Secretary Kerry and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan at the Eagles drive-thru!” he wrote. “Let’s vote for Kamala Harris! #GoBirds #Vote.”
De Niro rails against Trump
It should come as no surprise that Robert De Niro supports the current vice president, as the actor has been speaking out against her rival Donald Trump for months. He explained at the New York Film Festival in September that Trump “wants to destroy America” and that he was worried about that: “For me, it’s not over until it’s over, and we have to be fully committed to that. to beat the Republicans – these Republicans, they are not real Republicans – and to beat Trump. It’s that simple. We can’t use this kind of person. Everyone needs to go out and vote.”
