After some scares against Arthur Fils in the round of 16 on Thursday, Alexander Zverev had a quieter day this Friday in the quarter-finals.
The German, seeded number 3, easily dismissed the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in two sets (7-5, 6-4) and 1h41 of play on the central court of the Rolex Paris Masters, at the Accor Arena in Bercy. Zverev relied on a very effective first ball (70% first serve, 79% points won on this first serve) against a too clumsy Tsitsipas (28 unforced errors) to hope to grab a third set.
At 27, he joins the final four of the Rolex Paris Masters for the third time in his career after the 2020 editions (defeat in the final) and 2021 (defeat in the semi-final), beaten each time by the Russian Daniil Medvedev. Zverev remains in the race to win the seventh Masters 1000 of his career after successes in Madrid (x2), Rome (x2), Canada and Cincinnati.
In the semi-final, he awaits the winner of the match between the Dane Holger Rune, seeded 13, and the Australian Alex de Minaur, seeded 9.
The most anticipated quarter-final of the day will not begin before 7 p.m. between Ugo Humbert, the last Frenchman in the running, and another Australian player, Jordan Thompson.
Finally, Friday evening will conclude with the clash of punchers between the Russian Karen Khachanov and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
