After a few years, a Judo Saarland Championship finally took place again. This Saarland championship shined with some innovations. Particularly noteworthy is a lion, the new mascot of the Saarland Judo Association, which thrilled everyone at the championship. The lion is still looking for a name. Suggestions for this were already collected at the championship. However, proposals can also be submitted until December 15, 2024. Please send us your suggested name to [email protected], stating your name and your club. You would also be welcome to contact us about this Formulate use.
Furthermore, TSV Steinrausch entered the organizing stage as a new judo club and got off to a very good start with this event in Saarlouis. In addition to the regular organization of the Saarland Championship, the children were kept busy, the spectators kept out of the hall and the waiting fighters looked after. The latter ensured that the fighting progressed quickly.
There was also real fighting. A total of 200 judoka from 20 of the 29 Saarland judo clubs found their way to Saarlouis and took part in the title fights. For President Stefan Mautes, a rather disappointing field of participants. Overall, almost a third of the Saarland judo clubs were missing. Only 5 clubs were represented with an impressive number of participants. The other clubs only had a few participants at the start. The bottom line is that not even 20% of potential children and young people took part in the competition. Judo is a competitive sport and it also involves competing with others. The most successful clubs were TV Merzig, JC Folsterhöhe, JC Uchtelfangen, TuS Neunkirchen and Judo Kenshi Homburg-Erbach. The Saarland championship was openly advertised for the U15 and U18 youth categories, so that there were also some participants from the border regions of Palatinate, Rhineland and Lorraine.
Another innovation was not met with enthusiasm by everyone. In the U10, the weight classes were, as always, divided into groups close in weight, but in order to generate the added value of a Saarland championship, the groups were combined into 8 participants if possible so that the children can fight.
