Last Saturday, the Saarland squad athletes Max Oesterwind (-55 kg), Alessandro Catalano (-55 kg), Maximilian Coassin (-55 kg) and Emil Guliyev (-73 kg) took part in the Federal Open Screening Tournament to name the national squad in the U17 age group Herne part.
In the weight class up to 55kg, which had 45 participants, Max Oesterwind initially had a bye. In the following two fights against Martin Engelhart and Aristidis Psaltiras, Max was able to clearly prevail until it came down to the crunch in the quarterfinals against Mykita Buriak – the fight went beyond the regular fight time, with Max ultimately winning with Wazaari.
Max was also able to prevail in the semi-final against Dmytro Hromyk, although the encounter lasted almost the full time.
Only in the final did he no longer have enough strength and he had to admit defeat to Muchamed Mutoshvili from Göttingen with Wazaari after four minutes.
Result. A very good second place for Max, who is now the focus of the national coach.
Unfortunately, the remaining athletes did not achieve a placement.
The counterpart of the tournament for female youth took place in Holzwickede in North Rhine-Westphalia. Here Elena Sagona took part in the weight class up to 52 kg. Unfortunately, she was only able to win one fight, which was unfortunately not enough for a placing.
