Samuel Calderón shone in Armenia with the eighth gold medal for Risaralda ‘Casta de Campeones’
- With the beginning of boccia, judo and badminton, the expectations of medals for Rirasal athletes continue.
Pereira, November 23, 2024. Risaraldense bowler Samuel Calderón had an impeccable day in bowling at the I National and Paranational Youth Games, after finishing third in the qualifying round with 2,624 points. In the semifinal, he defeated Miguel Londoño, from Quindío, 395-339, and in the final he won with authority against Zamir Jaimes, from Bogotá, with a score of 509 to 451.
“Happy with this achievement, I hope to continue bringing more joy to the department; “It wasn’t easy, but concentration and discipline led me to victory,” said Samuel after his victory.
With this gold, Risaralda reached 8 gold medals, three of them were achieved in the Quindian capital.
Another Casta de Campeones athlete who reached the podium was Johan Steven Gómez, who won the silver medal in the Olympic cross country event, which took place in the popular El Bosque park in Manizales with a demanding course.
Despite suffering some mechanical failures during the test, the Risaralda cyclist gave his all and in the end achieved a creditable second place with a time of 55 minutes and 58 seconds.
“Thank you to the Government of Risaralda for so much support, to my parents, to all the people who believe in me, a very good track, this time I got a second place and I am very happy,” were the words of Johan Gómez at the end of the test.
The swimming finals will begin at 5:00 in the afternoon this Saturday, November 23 at the Villa Olímpica Swimming Pools in Pereira.
