SANTO DOMINGO.- Santiago and San Pedro de Macorís achieved top honors in the male and female lines, respectively, of the First National School Table Tennis Tournament 2024 held in Parque del Este, organized by the Ministry of Education (MINERD) and the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) and in which students from 17 of the 18 educational regions participated, aged between 13 and 15 years.
The tennis players from the “Ciudad Corazón”, representatives of regional 08 of Education, also won the title of “absolute champion” by accumulating 1,140 points in both genders, followed by the petromacorisanos (regional 05), who came second overall. with 1,080 units, and the National District (regional 15), with 160.
In the men’s division, Santiago, represented by Alexander Pérez, Juan Rodríguez, Eydrhian Paulino and Edwin Martínez, won the major trophy by achieving 3,162 points, followed by the National District, Monte Plata and San Pedro, who occupied the rest in that order. positions.
On their side, the “Sultana del Este”, with Dafne Sosa, Yesmeily Guerrero, Eduanny De la Cruz and Yandra Mejía, took the top honors with 1,025 units, followed by Santiago, with 600 points; Moca (regional 06), with 490 points; 490 points, and La Vega (regional 06), with 461 units.
The tennis players of both genders, and from the 17 participating regionals, saw action in the singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles modalities.
The director of INEFI, Alberto Rodríguez, recalled that the event was part of the calendar of school sports tournaments for the year 2024, which includes baseball, basketball and badminton in the last quarter of the year.
“Our goal is to promote school sports in every corner of the country and ensure that all students have the opportunity to develop their physical and personal skills through healthy competition,” said Rodríguez.
“We are committed to the comprehensive education of our students, and sports are a fundamental tool to achieve this,” he argued.
The technical director of INEFI, Eddy González, stated that this “is an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their talent and commitment in their discipline, while developing sportsmanship and learning to work as a team.”
