The qualifying session for the Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix, the 21st of the 24 races of the season, was postponed this Saturday to Sunday because of the rain that hit the José Carlos Pace racetrack.
The session, which was scheduled for 6pm (Lisbon time), was initially delayed, but, after two hours of waiting, with the sunlight decreasing, the race management decided to postpone the session until Sunday.

“Qualifying will be held on Sunday. We have to ensure that we can maximize everything. The light conditions are getting worse, in this scenario, it is impossible”, explained Italian Stefano Domenicalli, president of Formula 1, the company responsible for organizing the championship.
The former Ferrari boss was interrupted by Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) when speaking to the competition’s official microphones, with the British driver asking Domenicalli to force suppliers “to manufacture better rain tires” and return to the use of thermal heating blankets of the tires.
“So we could go inside [da pista]”, said the seven-time world champion.
Qualification should take place on Sunday morning, at a time yet to be announced.
