HOEVELAKEN Expectations were not high in advance, but SC Hoevelaken almost managed to reach the third round of the district cup on Tuesday. At vv Heino, which plays in the fourth division, Hoevelaken came to 4-4 in the final phase. Unfortunately, the team still lost in the decisive penalty shootout.
Heino probably thought he would have an easy evening on his own field, because the team plays no less than three classes higher than SC Hoevelaken. However, they were completely surprised by the guests from Hoevelaken and especially by the effectiveness of Daan Vinke. Within fifteen minutes the guests took a surprising and deserved 0-2 lead through the attacker. After half an hour, the home team was only able to get something back when Stijn Kogelman was able to shoot freely. Then things went quickly, because five minutes later Nick Peters made it 2-2 and that was also the half-time score.
In the second half, Hoevelaken held out well for fifteen minutes, but then the curtain seemed to fall. First, Jesse Kruiper put his team at 3-2 and almost immediately after the kick-off, the deeply sent Matthias Reinmink managed to score the 4-2. The tension was soon back and it was Daan Vinke who made the score 4-3 with his third goal. After Marvin van den Brom received a red card, the decision seemed final, but in the final minute Siem Kooistra managed to score the 4-4.
Penalties had to be the deciding factor and there too the tension was oozing. Heino quickly seemed to distance himself, but in the run of five Gijs Leebeek managed to stop the last two bets, making the score 3-3. Then things went back and forth and unfortunately for Hoevelaken, EtiĆ«nne Louis’ effort was cleverly saved by Heino’s goalkeeper. Hoevelaken is therefore eliminated from the cup, but can look back on an excellent performance, pushing a higher-ranking team to the limit.
