Judoka Majdov disqualified from the Olympics for religious gesture

28-year-old Serbian judoka <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/02/tel-aviv-furious-judo-grand-slam-finals/" title="Tel Aviv: Furious Judo Grand Slam Finals”>Nemanja Majdov was disqualified from the 2024 Paris Olympics because he crossed himself before the fight.

Majdov received a letter from the International Judo Federation (IJF) announcing his suspension for five months due to the religious gesture.

15 days ago I received the ruling from the International Judo Federation that I am suspended for 5 months. Exactly because I crossed myself as I marched into the Olympic Games. I was banned from taking part in all tournaments, training camps and preparation courses. However, in the disciplinary letter I didn’t want to apologize for crossing myself, even though I didn’t know what punishment was threatened. The Lord gave me everything for my career. And I’m proud of that. This will not change under any circumstances. It’s a shame that a sport like judo deals with such things.

In another bout of the Olympic judo tournament, judoka Emomali from Tajikistan defeated his opponent Shmaylov from Israel. After the fight, Emomali refused to shake his opponent’s hand and shouted “Allahu Akbar”.

It should also be noted that Shmaylov also refused to shake hands with Bushit from Morocco in another fight.

It was previously announced that Olympic medalist Palchik from Israel could lose his medal because of support for the military.
