Serena Williams (43) swapped her tennis racket for running shoes. The former professional athlete, who ended her tennis career in September 2022, is training for a half marathon, as she revealed to “People” magazine in an interview.

“I’m trying to run a half marathon. That’s my new goal. So it’s like, I just have to do something competitive. I miss tennis like crazy,” says Williams. She is currently more “obsessed” than ever with diet and exercise and is continually trying to get fitter. However, after years in professional sport, it is currently difficult for her not to display a competitive mindset in everything.

Serena Williams doesn’t regret her decision

Although she misses playing tennis, Serena Williams has made it clear that she has no regrets about her decision to retire. “I love that I chose my family and I want to be near them every single day of my life,” emphasized the 23-time Grand Slam winner. She’s now trying to be the best at something else instead of tennis: “For me at the moment that’s being a mother.”

Serena Williams has two daughters with her husband Alexis Ohanian (41), with whom she has been married for around seven years. Their first child Olympia (7) was born in September 2017, followed by Adira (1) in August 2023.

With 23 singles titles at Grand Slam tournaments and 319 weeks at number one in the world rankings, Williams is considered one of the most successful tennis players of all time. In 2022 she ended her 27-year career with one last match at the US Open. “I have to focus on being a mother, on my spiritual goals and on finally discovering a different, but just as exciting Serena,” she said on Instagram at the time, explaining why she was ending her career.
