Sèvremoine. Gold in the “capital” of judo

The Macair Judo Club hosted the Interregional Youth Grand Prix last weekend. A demonstration usually organized in a “big city”. For two days, the 899 judokas present competed in five dojos specially set up in the Marie-Josèphe-Hervé room. They came from all the departments of the Pays de la Loire region, but also from neighboring regions: Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Centre-Val de Loire, Normandy and Brittany. In detail, there were 341 juniors, 264 junior girls and boys, 249 cadets and 45 in adapted judo, or 899 judokas, a record! Last year there were 650.

With 150 members this season, the Macair Judo Club is seeing its numbers grow. The club continues to be involved in interclubs which allow young people to prepare for official competitions; they come back every time with good results. For the 2024-2025 season, the club took on the challenge of organizing, once again, the Grand Prix for young juniors and cadets, followed by the junior satellite tournament. Without forgetting the departmental adapted para-judo championship which welcomed 45 participants during the second day.

Four young people from the club won medals, including two gold

Adapted judo is practiced by people with sensory (visual or hearing), physical or intellectual disabilities. The discipline follows the same rules as valid judo, with the exception of the grabbing rules. Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges was this weekend the regional judo capital of the Great West. There is no doubt that this Grand Prix constitutes a great showcase for the club and the town of Sèvremoine. There is also great enthusiasm within the club. The Olympic Games have something to do with it! underlines President Thierry Hamard.

In terms of results, four young people from the club had the chance to get on the podium, including two on the first step. The cadet Mathilda Madrid Caillaud won the gold medal in the category of less than 70 kg and the minimal girl 1concerning That year, Lylou Blanco also won in the under 36 kg category. The little boy 1concerning The year when Adrien Bouyer climbed onto the third step in the over 70 kg category, the youngest Andréas Clémot also finished with a bronze medal for his second competition, after that of Les Herbiers. A great source of pride for the organizing club.
