Gifhorn. The badminton cracks of SG Gifhorn/Nienburg will play their last two regional league games this weekend and thus also their year-end. They are guests at SG Hammer/Altenholz/Molfsee (Saturday, 4 p.m.) and at Blau-Weiß Wittorf-Neumünster II (Sunday, 10 a.m.), both neighbors in the table. However, coach Hans Werner Niesner has a slight stomach ache – not only will he not be there, but also several top performers. Leonie Wronna is also missing; she is already in Ibiza at this point.

Rachel Andrew has to play the Scottish Open in her home country at the weekend, as determined by the Scottish association coach. “It’s a real shame for us,” explains Niesner. Andrew is represented by Karen Radke from the second team. Patrick Thöne will also not be able to make the trip to the north as he is unable to attend. Max Layera replaces him from the second position. Martina Nöst, Callum Smith, Holger Herbst and youngster Matteo Schinzel are also in action for the SG. The failures of Andrew and Thöne are serious and almost impossible to compensate for.
Wronna can take part in the European Youth Championships in Ibiza
Leonie Wronna would have been happy to be there, but the 17-year-old will compete in the European Youth Championships (from November 26th to December 5th) in doubles and mixed doubles in Ibiza. The German team will set off for the holiday island on Friday. “Leonie is one of the youngest in the team, for her this is an award. We hope that she plays relaxed and gains experience in her first major tournament at international level,” says Niesner.

The coach finds it difficult to assess Gifhorn’s opponent. Hammer/Altenholz/Molfsee were runners-up last year. “But you don’t know beforehand who is playing,” explains Niesner. It’s similar with Wittorf-Neumünster II. The first representative of the blue-whites is active in the Bundesliga, reinforcements from this team are possible. “If we get two points in both games together, we could certainly be satisfied given the circumstances,” says Gifhorn’s coach.
No training break afterwards
The SG team will not take a break from training afterwards, as there are still several state championships waiting in December and the North German championship in Hamburg on the first weekend of the new year. “We want to be successful again as a club,” explains Niesner.
