Shohei Ohtani finished the World Series with a major injury

Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani did play the last three games of the World Series with a significant injury.

Indeed, the Japanese underwent surgery to treat a torn labrum on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed.

As a reminder, he injured his left shoulder on October 26 during Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees. He then made a slide at second base while trying to steal a cushion when his supporting arm slipped badly against the clay.

After this injury, Ohtani was rather discreet during the next three matches. He scored a run and had a hit, his postseason batting average dropping to .230.

Ohtani still has 9 seasons remaining on his 10-year, $700 million contract signed with the Californian team last December. In 2024, he posted a .310 batting average in addition to hitting 54 home runs and 197 hits.
