The Los Angeles Dodgers announced this Tuesday that prominent Japanese slugger Shohei Ohtani underwent surgery to correct the injury he suffered in his left shoulder in the recently concluded World Series, in which the Los Angeles team defeated the New York Yankees.
The Californian team detailed what Ohtani successfully underwent arthroscopic procedure to repair a labral tearresulting from a left shoulder dislocation on October 26 in the second game of the Fall Classic. The team indicated that the surgical procedure was performed in Los Angeles by renowned surgeon Neal ElAttrache.
The World Series champions estimate that Ohtani will be ready to return to action for the start of next year’s training camps, where he is also expected to prepare to perform. as a pitcher in the 2025 Major League Baseball campaign.
Ohtani injured his shoulder sliding into an attempted steal at second base in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 2 of the World Series, forcing him to play with a winch to keep his left shoulder immobile.
After the injury, which caused him obvious difficulties in acting at the plate, Ohtani barely had one hit in 11 plate appearances (.091)a walk, a strikeout and a run scored in the remaining three games he played against the Yankees in the World Series.
In his first year, after signing his contract of $700 million dollars for 10 seasons, Ohtani not only managed to be crowned Major League champion, but also left his mark with the individual records he managed to establish.
