Following the election of Ruth Metzler-Arnold as the new President of Swiss Olympic, nine additional members were elected to the Executive Council at the 28th meeting of the Sports Parliament; The three of them are taking part in this for the first time.
Of the previous ones, the Vice President Ruth Wipfli Steinegger (Swiss Tennis), Sergei Aschwanden (Swiss Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association), Daniel Bareiss (Swiss Floorball), Pascal Jenny (Swiss Handball Association), Barbara Moosmann (Swiss Aquatics) and Nora Willi (Swiss Volley) all candidates were re-elected in the first round.
Newly elected to the Executive Council at the House of Sports in Ittigen were Mario Gyr (proposed by the Swiss Rowing Association), Ophélia Jeanneret (Swiss University Sports) and Kathrin Lehmann (Swiss Ice Hockey Federation) – all also in the first round.
After this general election, the Executive Board will consist of six women and four men, thus fulfilling the new gender quota. From January 1, 2025, this provides for at least 40 percent representation of both genders in the top management bodies of national sports associations.
However, Regula Meier (Swiss Alpine Club SAC) – she lost 18 votes to Lehmann -, Christian Lohr (PluSport Disabled Sports Switzerland) and Norman Gobbi (Swiss Shooting Sports Association) were not elected on Friday.
The 14-member Executive Council also includes the two athlete representatives Jeannine Gmelin and Matthias Kyburz and the two Swiss IOC members Gianni Infantino and Denis Oswald.
Within Swiss Olympic, the Executive Council is the governing body. He prepares the decisions of the sports parliament, ensures their implementation and represents the umbrella organization of Swiss sports externally. The committee also determines the organizational structure, the work areas and the medium and long-term planning goals of Swiss Olympic. He also appoints the leadership team for the Swiss delegations to the Olympic Games.
