Club Brugge seems to be back on track with smooth victories against arch-rival Anderlecht and third division team Belisia Bilzen. A line that Nicky Hayen would of course like to continue in Leuven, although he did receive some particularly bad news from the infirmary in the run-up to that match.
Or at least it looks like that, because there is once again no trace of Gustaf Nilsson in the match squad. However, the striker celebrated his return with a goal on Wednesday after a few weeks of absence with an Achilles tendon injury. The fact that he is now not in the party again does not bode well.
Nilsson like Vertonghen?
We will have to wait for an official explanation from Jan Breydel for the time being, but Nilsson may have experienced a reaction after his substitute appearance in the Croky Cup and has therefore relapsed. It is reminiscent of the situation of Jan Vertonghen, who has been out for three months with problems with his Achilles tendons. Blauw-Zwart hopes to avoid that disaster scenario.
That is why Hayen was already cautious with the Swedish target man, who now perhaps made his comeback too early. Fortunately for Club, his replacements Ferran Jutglà and Romeo Vermant have both gained some confidence in recent weeks. They can probably count on even more playing minutes.
Seys out, Siquet in
Who knows, maybe next Wednesday in the Champions League against Aston Villa, when Hayen will undoubtedly hope to recover Nilsson. Another notable name that is missing is that of Joaquin Seys. He may have been a victim of Bjorn Meijer’s return, although Hugo Siquet is also part of the selection.
Unless he has to return to Club NXT, there seems to be a good chance that the versatile left back is also struggling with physical ailments. Finally, just like on Wednesday, Hugo Vetlesen is nowhere to be found. There also appears to be an injury in the case of the midfielder. Waiting for an update from Westkapelle.
