Softball and baseball, Mazzieri new president of the federation

MILANO – Marco Mazzieri he was proclaimed president of the Fibs, Baseball and Softball Federation, for the four-year period 2025-28. He is the ninth president in the history of the Italian baseball and softball Federation. “If they had told me 50 years ago that I would be President of this movement that has given me so much, I wouldn’t have believed it. We really want to be everyone’s Federation, we don’t want to leave anyone behind and we want to put the whole movement in a position to work at its best. Thanks so much to everyone” declared the new president immediately.

Mazzieri will be able to count on the support of the Federal Council as follows: Pierluigi Bissa, Stefano Sbardolini, Federica Morri, Marina Centrone, Sabrina Olivero, Marco Mannucci, Sergio Piccinini as affiliates. Andrea Sgnaolin, Emanuela Giovinazzo in athletes’ quota. Ettore Finetti at technical level. The president of the Board of Auditors is Federico Loda.

Marco Mazzieri, born in Grosseto on 20 December 1962, took his first steps as a player in Roselle. In 1980 he had his first presence with BBC Grosseto, with whom he will play continuously until 2000, with a stint in Bologna, between Calze Verdi Casalecchio first (1 year) and Fortitudo Bologna then between 1991 and 1993. He played over 1000 games in the top baseball championship, wearing the number 5, retired in 2011 by the Maremma club. In the national team, as a player, he was part of the Italian selection from the 1985 European Championship to the 1990 World Cup, for a total of 73 appearances. Moving on to lead the bench of the Junior National Team, he won the European title in 2007, a success which earned him the ‘promotion’ to manager of the senior National Team, with which he climbed to the top step of the continental podium in 2010 and 2012 and, in 2010, wins bronze at the last Taiwan Intercontinental Cup in the 3rd place final against the hosts.

In 2009, 2013 and 2017 he led the Azzurri to the World Baseball Classic, reaching the second stage in 2013. Twice leading the Europe selection against Samurai Japan in the 2015 and 2024 Global Baseball Series. In 2017 he was awarded the Career Achievement Award by the European Baseball Coaches Association. He is Chairman of the Coach Commission of the World Baseball Softball Confederation.
