The Spanish women’s soccer team already knows its rivals for the UEFA Nations League 2025.
Spain did not have much luck in the draw, and was placed in Group A3 with England, Belgium and Portugal.
The Spanish team will therefore add a new chapter to its growing rivalry with England: in the 2022 Euro Cup they lost against Sarina Wiegman’s team in the quarterfinals, but took revenge in the 2023 World Cup final.
Belgium and Portugal, 20th and 22nd respectively in the latest FIFA ranking, are a priori more affordable rivals. Montse Tomé’s team already faced the Belgians in the qualifying phase for the Euro Cup, with a record of two wins and a 9-0 aggregate score.
Spain will begin the defense of the title in February 2025, a year after winning the last edition in La Cartuja in Seville. Then, the world champions beat the Netherlands 3-0 in the semifinals and France 2-0 in the final.
The Nations League is one of the two great objectives next year for the Spanish women’s soccer team, which will also play the Euro 2025 in Switzerland from July 2 to 27.
Hours before the draw, the Royal Spanish Football Federation announced the next two friendlies for the women’s team: they will play on November 29 against the Republic of Korea in Cartagena, and on December 3 in Nice against France.
They will be the last two friendlies before the start of the 2025 Nations League, two new tests to shape this new cycle of the Spanish team.
The team will continue to have its Ballon d’Or winners in charge, Aitana Bonmatí y Alexia Putellasand proven players like Olga Carmona, Mariona Caldentey o Athenea del Castillo; but young people like them are also expected to gain weight Salma Paralluelo; and settle in the absolute others like Vicky Lopez o Too often.
