Philip-Olivier Thibault, from Club Les Cyclones, won three gold medals during the second installment of the Eastern Cup, a short track speed skating competition circuit in Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, presented on Saturday last at the Amqui arena.
In group 1 for 6-9 year olds, the athlete won the 200, 400 and 800 meter events, in addition to lowering his personal marks on each of these distances
Léonie Beauvais also had an excellent day, in the same category, winning silver in the 200 and 800 meters as well as bronze in the 400 meters.
She has also achieved the standards for access to the interregional circuit from the next season, reserved for skaters aged 10 to 12.
For his part, Mathias Bouchard won silver in the 400 meters and bronze in the 800 meters.
Still among the 6-9 year olds, but in group 3, Noam Gendron took the second step of the podium in the 300 meters, while Émile Charest achieved the bronze hat-trick in group 4.
Encore l’or
In the 5 and under category, Laurence Bouchard returns with gold in the 255 meters as well as silver in the 85 and 170 meters.
The only skater from Rimouski among those aged 10 and over, Léa-Mai Guimond earned a silver medal, awarded according to the cumulative ranking rather than by distance. The latter also achieves the interregional standard and being in the 10 years and over category, it will be able to continue its season on this new network.
The action will resume next weekend for the Cyclones, when the second stage of the college-university circuit in short track and the Coupe Québec 2 in long track will be held.
