@philldertuete The explanation is probably sad and human at the same time: convenience.
Find a trainer who fits into an organization where everyone loves and knows each other, and new momentum comes in every 12 years when someone gets sick.
See also Dortmund. Or FC Bayern football. Or Schalke. Or Hertha. There are grandees sitting there who have settled in nicely with their friends and are still living off the success of the past. In football in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Leipzig and Leverkusen, “the eternal all-knowing ones” recently vacated their places and all four clubs are among the top clubs in the Bundesliga and even in Europe.
Things have been going “wrong” at BVB for 8 years. At FCB football for 3 years. Alba won’t be the last club there.
Since basketball creates so little “external pressure” compared to football, it is even easier to give up a few seasons without any consequences.
If the Bundesliga seriously had more than just two three championship candidates, I’m pretty sure Baldi and Co would have reacted long ago.
But as Alba, you will probably make it to the Final Four and the final in the BBL in a relatively relaxed manner this year and that doesn’t really sound like “failure” to stakeholders.
We as fans often have higher demands in basketball than the CEOs of Alba and Bayern and Co.
