St. Anthony breathes basketball

The Sant Antoni Bàsquet Club does not stop growing. The Portmany entity, which has become the benchmark for Pitiusas basketball on its own merits, presented on Saturday, in the Sa Pedrera pavilion, the teams it has for the current 24-25 season. The spearhead continues to be the Second FEB team, but underneath there is an entire quarry that continues to increase and this season has 160 players, who are in charge of about fifteen coaches, all of them trained in-house. In addition, there are five of them who are from the quarry and have obtained the initiation title.

In total, the base of the pyramid is made up of 12 teams, three more than last year, in the following categories: baby, school, premini, three minis (white, blau and feminine), three in the children’s category (blanc, blau and female), a cadet, an inter-island junior and the national senior. To that we must add the Second FEB team, which this campaign wants to fight again for promotion to the antechamber of the ACB.

Marcos Páez, vice president of the club, stated that the growth of the quarry “is marked by two very clear issues.” «The first, the brand of the project, which has a lot of pull within the island. The social part and the first team are helping the knowledge among the youngest, who are coming to the Second FEB team’s games. The next step they take is to want to join the club. Taking advantage of this, we have decided to invest in increasingly professionalizing the management of the quarry. There are two full-time coordinators hired, Cristina Miguel and Marc Játiva, who are doing an excellent job with their technical staff. In addition, we encourage the training of our coaches, who are increasingly better prepared,” said Páez. «We are in record numbers in the history of the club. The idea is to continue with that very clear line,” said the vice president of CB Sant Antoni, who hopes that “in the medium or long term” there will be an outstanding Ibizan representation in the professional teams.
