This is one of the biggest challenges in the world of sport: 40 sailors (34 men and 6 women) of 11 different nationalities are setting off on November 10, 2024 to take on the oceans for a solo sailing trip around the world, non-stop and without assistance on monohulls of just over 18 meters. The start of the Vendée Globe will be given at 12:02 p.m. UT from Sables-d’Olonne. The first should be back in this city on the Atlantic coast of France within two and a half months. But getting to the end of this race is already an achievement. An ultimate quest pursued by very different athletes. And a typical profile: the youngest in the fleet is 23, the oldest 65, and everyone has good reasons to get started.
