AS Roma did not waste time: less than an hour after its home defeat against Bologna (3-2) on Sunday, it parted ways with its coach Ivan Juric, who arrived in September to replace Daniele De Rossi. “We want to thank Ivan Juric for his work over the last few weeks. He managed the team in a difficult climate with maximum professionalism”Roma said in its press release.
“The search for a new coach has already started and an announcement will be made in the coming days”added the capital club, suggesting that Juric’s fate was already sealed before this match. The Roman leaders now have ten days during the international break to find a new coach.
Hectic offseason
To replace him, Roma will be able to recruit former Italian coach Robero Mancini who has just left his post as coach of Saudi Arabia. Since taking office in mid-September, Juric, whose appointment had been strongly criticized by the Roman ultras, has won only three victories in the championship for four defeats and a draw. Roma have lost four of their last five matches, conceding twelve goals, including five at Fiorentina (5-1) on October 27.
With eleven points behind 5th place, Roma have almost lost all hope of qualifying for the next Champions League, a goal that their great rival, Lazio, 6th with a game in hand, can aim for. However, things were looking good for Roma who finished last season in 6th place under the leadership of De Rossi, appointed to replace Jose Mourinho in January. But the Roman club experienced an eventful off-season with the saga of the departure of Paulo Dybala, who ultimately stayed, and the arrivals of several players not wanted by De Rossi.
The former teammate of the emblematic Francesco Totti then fell out with several executives in his locker room, before paying the price for the poor results of his team and also for his disagreements with his leaders, including general manager Lina Souloukou who has since resigned after being the target of death threats.
