Four years away for doping problems and a comeback with fanfare. Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva intends to return to competition after her suspension, she announced this Friday.
Team gold medalist at the 2022 Winter Olympics, the then 15-year-old skater tested positive for trimetazidine. After two years of imbroglio, the International Skating Federation withdrew Kamila Valieva’s points from the Russian team at the end of January 2024.
A strawberry dessert from his grandfather as an excuse
“Of course, I’m thinking of returning to sport,” said the first skater to land a quadruple jump at the Olympics, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. “Leaving a sporting career so young would probably be stupid. I will make every effort to bring joy again to the public, to myself, to my coaches and, of course, to all my fans,” added the young woman, now 18 years old.
According to her, the banned product, prescribed for heart problems, could have been ingested while eating a “strawberry dessert prepared by her grandfather on the cutting board where he used to crush his medicines”.
