The season-ending Sunlite State Ranking Badminton Tournament 2024, organised by Sunlite Sports and Cultural Club and Shri Ashok Walke Charitable Trust in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, is set to begin today at the Indoor Stadium, Campal.
This final ranking tournament of the season promises intense competition as top sub junior and junior talents from across Goa compete in U11, U13, and U17 categories for boys and girls, spanning singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. “With a total of 13 events and around 200 young participants, the tournament will decide the final rankings and crown the top players for the upcoming season. There is immense enthusiasm among players to attain year end top ranking”, stated Manoj Patil, President of the Goa Badminton Association, while commending the club for organising this concluding ranking tournament of the season.
The tournament features a strong lineup of seeded players each aiming to defend or advance their ranking. In U11 Boys’ singles, top seed Michael Mare is set to face fierce competition from Pratik Naik Borkar (2), Krithik Reddy (3), and Varun Sahakari (3), while the U11 Girls’ singles category sees Amaira Dhumatkar leading as the top seed, followed by Kanika Pai Vernekar (2), Komal Kothari (3), Asabah Tahasildar (4), and Aditi Dhargalkar (4). The U13 Boys’ singles bracket is led by Mohammad Umar (1) and Michael Mare (2), Viraditya Pai Kane (3), Vishwa Parab (4), and Aaryan Karpe (4), while the U13 Girls’ singles joint top seeds include Avni Khyalia, Niharika Parwar, and Pragya Audi. Advait Balakrishnan (1) and Rutav Kanabar (2) lead the U17 Boys’ singles followed by Owais Tahasildar (3), Sudhanva Udupa (3), Vansh Natekar (4), while Shivanjali Thite and Sufiya Sheikh are the top-seeded players in U17 Girls’ singles, followed by Crisanne D’Sa (2) and Minoshka Pereira (2). With a prize purse of ₹2,25,000, the Sunlite State Ranking Badminton Tournament 2024 is set to deliver thrilling matches and showcase the young generation of badminton talents in Goa.
